Perfection is a Wrap: Why I’m Done Waiting (and You Should Be Too)

Let’s get one thing straight right out of the gate: I am dyslexic.

If you’re reading this and you notice a spelling mistake, a rogue comma, or a sentence that seems to have taken a detour through a scenic route before reaching its point, that’s why. Sometimes my grammar is all over the place. Sometimes the words on the screen don’t quite match the speed of the thoughts in my head.

I used to spend a lot of time worrying about that. I’d triple-check every email, obsess over every social post, and wait until things felt "perfect" before hitting send.

No more.

Waiting for the "perfect moment" or the "flawless version" is just another way of staying stuck. In the creative industries, whether you're a cinematographer, a DIT, or a director, we’re taught that the final frame has to be perfect. But the process of getting there? It’s messy, loud, and often completely chaotic.

The Site is Under Construction (And So Are We)

If you’ve clicked around Rushmind lately, you’ll see it’s a bit of a construction site. There are placeholder sections, evolving layouts, and things being moved around in real-time.

This is intentional.

I’m building this brand while I’m helping you build your career. I’m not waiting for a polished, finished, "grand opening" because life doesn’t work like that. If I waited for the site to be perfect, I wouldn't be here coaching the people who need it right now.

We are all works in progress. Your career, your mental health, and your relationships aren't things you "fix" once and then leave alone. They are systems you manage, tweak, and improve as you go. If you’re waiting for your life to be "settled" before you seek creative career coaching, you’re going to be waiting until the wrap party that never comes.

The Industry Runs on Neurodiversity

Here is the industry-specific reality that nobody talks about enough: The film and TV industry is practically powered by dyslexia and neurodiversity.

Research suggests that while about 15% of the general population is neurodivergent, that number climbs significantly in the creative sectors. In some areas of production, it’s estimated that up to 20% of the workforce processes information differently.

We are the ones who can look at a complex technical problem on set and see a solution that isn't in the manual. We are the visual thinkers, the pattern-spotters, and the people who thrive when the pressure is at its peak.

Dyslexia in creative industries isn't a "disadvantage" to be managed; it’s often the engine behind the innovation. But it comes with a cost. The same brain that can solve a lighting crisis in ten seconds might struggle with the administrative burnout, the social fatigue of a 14-hour day, or the crushing weight of "perfectionism."

That’s where I come in. I’ve spent over 18 years on-set (cinematography, DIT, workflow support). I know what it’s like when your brain is firing on all cylinders but your mental health is starting to redline.

My Coaching Style: "A Bit Out There," But I’m There

I’m not your typical "sit on a couch and talk about your feelings" coach. My approach is structured, direct, and, yes: a bit out there. I focus on mental health for filmmakers and professionals because I understand the specific language of our industry.

I provide a firm but fair environment. I’ll push you to set boundaries, I’ll demand clarity on your goals, and I’ll be the first person to tell you when you’re standing in your own way.

What You Get with My Coaching:

  • Direct Admission: I don’t hide behind corporate jargon. If something isn't working, I'll say it.
  • Industry Context: You don't have to explain what a "frantic 10-minute turnaround" feels like. I already know.
  • Practical Strategy: We don’t just talk; we build systems to help you navigate your career and personal wellbeing.
  • Total Confidentiality: NDAs are standard. Your business stays your business.

The Tools of the Trade: Rushmind Apps

One of the reasons the site is under construction is that I’m currently building out a suite of tools specifically for us. You can see what’s cooking at rushmind.co.uk/apps/.

These aren't generic productivity apps. They are being built to address the "messy" reality of creative work. When you sign up for coaching, you get access to these tools as they develop.

I’m building them because I need them, too.

Whether it's the Reconnect app or the future workflow tools, the goal is to reduce the "noise" so you can focus on the "signal." We’re taking the complex, neurodivergent way we think and turning it into a streamlined process.

How to Get Started (No Pressure)

If you’re tired of waiting for the "right time" to get your head straight or your career on track, here is exactly what happens next:

  1. 01: The Discovery Call. We spend 30 minutes figuring out if we’re a fit. If I can’t help you, I’ll tell you. No. I won't waste your time.
  2. 02: Goal Setting. We define exactly what success looks like for you. Not for your agent, not for your producer: for you.
  3. 03: The Build. We start the coaching sessions, integrating the Rushmind Apps and developing your specific strategy.

You decide.

There is no "hard sell" here. If you’re ready to stop waiting for perfection and start managing the reality of your creative life, I’m here. If you’re not ready yet, that’s fine too: the site will still be under construction when you get back.

Final Thought: Perfection is a Wrap

In film, "that's a wrap" means the work is done. But in life, the work is never really "done." It’s just evolving.

Don't let a fear of messy spelling, an unfinished website, or a "different" way of thinking stop you from moving forward. The most successful people I know in this industry are the ones who embraced their neurodiversity, owned their mistakes, and stopped waiting for permission to be great.

Stop waiting. Start building.
